Oversized graphic shirts and tennis skirts are trending among teens.

If social media is the tree’s roots, fashion trends would be colorful fruit. To many, an outfit is a fun way to express oneself and show their creativity. Clothing trends have been evolving and changing everyday life for Hermosa Valley students and others as well.

Furthermore, the online world has made apps such as TikTok, Pinterest, and Instagram. a convenient way to follow the trends and be in the know. Not only are students getting inspiration from social media, but online stores such as Brandy Melville and Shein are gaining popularity as well.

“I’ve seen preppy styles, vintage [styles], and street wear [styles] on social media,” seventh grade Hermosa Valley student Ella M said.

A preppy outfit might include a tennis skirt, a sweater vest, a collared shirt and a pair of Air Force 1s. Meanwhile a more retro style could include an oversized graphic t-shirt and high waisted jeans or sweatpants. They are very different aesthetics, yet they are both trending.

“People are very expressive with their clothes this year.” seventh grade Hermosa Valley student Lexie M said.

Everyone is unique in their own way and has a unique style even if they follow the trends. People of all ages can express themselves through fashion, and outfit ideas can spread all over social media and reach even more people.

“Everybody has their own style, but some things are pretty common [in clothing],” seventh grade Hermosa Valley student Lexie M. said.
