Fast Food: Exposed

Have you ever wondered how Oreo McFlurries are made? What ingredients go into the Crunchwrap Supreme from Taco Bell? The Whopper from Burger King? Well, there are a few secrets you may not know about these famous fast food restaurants.

McDonald’s is one of the largest restaurant chains in the world. However, it’s not all that great to eat. If you want to get sick, go right ahead and eat it.

McDonald’s uses a type of pink slime for their burgers. Pink slime is processed lean beef trimmings that is squeezed through a pipe. Next, it’s sprayed with ammonia, ammonia is used as a cleaning fluid. Then it’s dyed pink. Pink slime is used for their burger patties and it’s served at McDonald’s.

Dimethylpolysiloxane (pronounced dim-thill-PO-lees-O-lox-AIN) is a chemical that is used in putty and cosmetics, non-edible items. But at McDonald’s, this chemical is used in the frying oil. This ingredient isn’t even edible, yet it’s put into McDonald’s food. Dimethylpolysiloxane can make people feel ill and it can cause skin irritations, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting.

You’re probably grossed out by McDonalds food now, but prepare for Taco Bell. Taco Bell’s most popular (most unhealthy) item on their menu is the XXL grilled stuft burrito. Half of those calories are from fat! Eating one of these burritos can take up 90% of your daily sodium. WOAH! Now that is crazy!

One of the Taco Bell employees exposed this restaurant and said, “The grossest thing I’ve seen has to be fried food. We’ll keep the oil there for hours upon hours with stuff floating in it like old potatoes” Maybe it’s time to rethink eating Taco Bell’s fried foods.

Another employee said when they were making beans for their customers,”We get the beans from our supplier as dehydrated, small chunks, very similar to Cocoa Pebbles.” Now whenever we look at Taco Bell beans, all we think of  is Cocoa Pebbles.

Okay, we’ve already ruined your Taco Bell and McDonalds experience, but just wait for Burger King’s nasty secrets.

Burger King’s most popular burger called the Whopper and it has a whoppin’ 677 calories per burger! Don’t forget the Double Whopper with 941 calories per burger. According to Healthline.com, the average adult should eat 2,000 calories a day. Eating 941 calories in one meal (not including your soda and fries) is around 40% of your entire day’s worth of calories.

Burger King is not only unhealthy, but it also ruins Facebook friendships. “What are you talking about?” you ask. Well, let me tell you. In 2009, Burger King started a campaign to trade friends for burgers. If you unfriended ten Facebook friends using the WHOPPER Sacrifice application, you get a free Whopper! If you have some Facebook friends that don’t want anymore, that’s a pretty good deal. But imagine getting a message saying a burger is more valuable than you. Yeah, pretty harsh.

Furthermore, a Burger King employee says “They have a piece of equipment that you spray non-stick onto and lay down the metal grid then fill it up evenly with this liquid egg mix and BAM! In about a minute you have six eggs.” Eggs made in one minute may not be the most trustworthy, but that’s just our opinion.

If you’re still not convinced that fast food places aren’t telling you everything, listen to Lissa Solis, a doctor. “Fast food places have no nutritional value. The meals are made from chemicals and cause disease,” she said. “They are garbage.”

For our other interview, we have a student at Hermosa Valley and a customer at Burger King. She says, “When I ate at Burger King once, the cook forgot to take off the plastic wrap on the cheese, and I almost choked on the plastic. It was NOT very nice.” Do you really want to eat at a place who forgets such an easy task?

To conclude, fast food places have no nutritional value. Their meals are made with chemicals, but going there is completely your choice. If you want pink slime and 900 calories in your body, no one’s going to stop you. No matter what you do with this information, at least you know what’s in some of your favorite fast food meals.
