Kaepernick sits down during national anthem

Week one of the 2016 NFL season, Colin Kaepernick took a knee on the sideline at Levis Stadium during the national anthem.  There were mixed emotions at the stadium some booing and some cheering. Kaepernick quoted, “I will not stand for a country that has racism and world wide issues.” Kaepernick is not alone though. Kaepernick is joined by 4 of his teammates who sat together during the anthem.  He has sent a shockwave throughout sports. Women’s soccer star for the US National team Megan Rapinoe also sits down during the national anthem. Cornerback number 24 Barrett Shaquil for the Denver Broncos also sits down.  Barrett Shaquil quoted, “I have no respect for this country till they fix the racism.”

His act as also inspired many people. Despite being a backup quarterback his jersey his jersey has led the league in jerseys bought.  It has also been used a different way. On some social media sites people have been burning his jersey to the national anthem.  Kaepernick has also been active on social media tweeting I will continue to sit during the national anthem.  Many other players have said things about his act.

Middle Linebacker for the Denver Broncos Demarcus Ware seems…….he said, “ It is so disrespectful for him to sit down.” The Arizona Diamondbacks coach was asked about Collins act and he said, “ he would not play for me.”  He also Quoted, “ people die for that flag so you should show some respect for them and honor them by standing up.”  The US men’s national hockey team’s coach was also ask about Collins act. He said, “that no player will play for me who does not stand for the national anthem.”

There has also been different reactions to Kaepernick’s act. Denver Broncos coach Gary Kubiak said, “they have their rights so they can sit or stand.”  Some of NFL’s network commentators have been ask and all but one says he should stand up.  Deion Sanders former Pittsburgh Steeler said, “ Everybody needs to relax he can do whatever he wants.”  But fellow commentator Kirk Wanner said, “just because he is allowed to doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do,”

Whether one agrees or disagrees with Kaepernick the reality is that we have our rights. Everyone has different thoughts but that won’t change what he does.
