Dogs! Many people  have probably had one once in their lifetime. Dogs can vary in shapes and sizes from a Chihuahua, to a Great Dane. When you are looking at a dog, you think, “It’s so cute, I should get one.” Well, it’s not that easy to have a dog. What are the sacrifices you need to make in order to get a dog?

One downside of having a dog, is that a dog takes up a lot of time and effort. Imagine you have a big dog. You have to take time out of your day to feed them, you have to take effort to walk them, and sometimes, you even have to clean them. Walking a dog is not a quick and easy task. You have to walk a dog three times a day, each walk for about 10 minutes or more. Now someone might think, “I don’t need to walk a dog, I have a backyard.” Well, the purpose of walking a dog is to get its energy out. Sure, the dog can go to the bathroom in the backyard, but if you do not walk it, your dog will be crazy.

Speaking of your dog being crazy, Many dogs like Chihuahuas end up in shelters because they are loud and annoying. Chihuahuas naturally are guard dogs, so if they hear a little noise, they will start barking as loud as they can. When dogs bark to much, their is a risk of your neighbor calling animal control on your dog, causing it to end up in a shelter. If you do take your dog for a walk, because they are crazy, you have to worry about the picking up feces. If you get a dog, you have to be willing to pick up gross stuff, and you will have to take the time to potty train them.

The last sacrifice you have to make while owning a dog is that you have to be able to cope with the sadness you get when the dog dies. Although while the dog is alive, it acts like your best friend, gives you company, and gives you endless love, eventually, it will pass away. When your dog passes away, it is like your best friend just passed away. There is nothing to prepare you for the death of a dog.

In the end, it is up to you to determine whether or not you want to sacrifice all of this for a dog. I personally think that dogs are definitely worth it, because they help you through tough times, give you comfort, and give you endless love. I think everyone should try getting a dog once in their lifetime so they can understand why people love dogs.
