How is Pizza Made?

Pizza, one of the best foods out there! The delicious tomato sauce with gooey cheese and the yummy garlic crust. Everyone loves pizza, but did you ever wonder how this amazing dish is made.

Pizza was invented in 1889 in Naples, Italy by Raffaele Esposito. He was called to make some pizza for the visit of King Umberto I and Queen Margherita when they were visiting Italy. The toppings the queen liked the most on the pizza were soft white cheese and red tomatoes. This popular type of pizza is now called Margherita. Before pizza became popular, it was baked and sold to poor people. If the queen didn’t go for the “peasant bread,” pizza might not have become the sensation it is today.

Today, pizza is made by, first, assembling the dough. This is made out of yeast, flour, water, salt, olive oil, and a little bit of sugar. When the ingredients are mixed and the dough is chilled, you roll it out into a big circle, leaving the edge with a crust. Then get tomato sauce and pour it on.  Spread it around in a circle making sure it’s evenly distributed. Then get shredded cheese. Sprinkle it on top so that it covers the tomato sauce. Once that is done, add additional toppings. Some toppings are pepperoni, mushroom, pineapple, bacon, and lots more. Some restaurants that sell pizza are California Pizza Kitchen, BJ’s, Dominos, and Pizza Hut.

Pizza can also be cooked by doing woodfire. Woodfire pizza has a very thin, and kind of has a hard crust. To make woodfire pizza, you have to have a woodfire oven. Some restaurants cook their pizza this way. When cooking a woodfired pizza, you first have to build a fire in the center of the oven. Making the pizza dough and rolling it out is the same way as a regular pizza. When your dough is done and ready with your sauce and toppings on it, put it on a pizza peel, which is a paddle to transfer it into the oven. Then put the pizza in the oven. When it is all cooked, remove it from the oven. Then you can slice it, and it’s ready to eat. Yum!

Overall, pizza is a great and a delicious food. Now that you know how it’s made, maybe you can try it yourself.
