The History of Spongebob Squarepants

You all know the famous cartoon TV show, Spongebob Squarepants, but have you heard the whole story behind it?

You all know the famous cartoon TV show, Spongebob Squarepants, but have you heard the whole story behind it? I think not. Have you ever wondered who plays the characters and who came up with this idea of a deep sea town? The buildings and characters represent something in real life, that you probably wouldn’t expect.

The idea of creating this TV series was the mind of Stephen Hillenburg, who was actually a marine biologist. He also loved to draw and sketch comics, so he combined his two hobbies and created the fun series of Spongebob Squarepants that we know today. At first he created a character named Spongeboy that looked the the Spongebob we know but had a green hat. They did not use this name because people said it copyrighted a name that was used for a mop. You also know Spongebob’s best friend, Patrick. He always wasn’t thought of happy, funny, and cheerful, but he was first created as an angry bar owner. Stephen had the idea of Patrick being  angry because Patrick was upset that he was pink. The characters, including Patrick, changed into what we know now.

Ever wondered who speaks the voices of the Spongebob characters? The unique voice of Spongebob is played by Tom Kenny. He has a high pitched voice which fits perfectly with the role he plays. Spongebob’s best friend, Patrick Star, is played by the actor Bill Fagerbakke. Their annoying neighbor, Squidward Tentacles, is played by Roger Bumpass. The Krusty Krab, where Spongebob works, is owned by Eugene Krabs who is played by Clancy Brown. The Krusty Krab is actually a lobster trap made into a restaurant. The Chum Bucket, their rival restaurant across the street, is owned by evil Plankton who is voiced by Mr. Lawrence. The Chum Bucket is also just a fish bucket upside down. Here is a video of the actors speaking the voices: voices .

The actors that have played the roles of the Spongebob characters have played them perfectly, and the ideas behind the buildings of the undersea world are very creative.

The Spongebob TV series is a very creative and kid friendly show. The history of the show relates to the real sea and it captures what creatures live there. The show at the beginning  was not as it is today with different characters and features which were changed before the show aired. The show would not be the same without the actors voices that make it interesting and fun. The cartoon we all love has a very interesting back story on how it was created and its history has given us a sense on how the ocean is.
